Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
My buddy just had a Trans. Temp gauge installed. (Isspro) He is currently on his way to Alabama to get a dozer.
He called and said the temp. has not left 140 degrees. He is worried that its not reading right, or is that normal for the
temp. He is pulling a 30 ft. trailer. Any help for him will be appreciated. He goes by Dual Tandem on here.
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
Ever since it got cold out, mine barely reads anything while i'm driving. It pretty much only goes up when i'm backing into the garage. It read fine all summer/fall. So I would say it's probably fine.

Tony
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
That would depend on where the temp probe is installed. If he has a deep pan and the probe is there, that is probably normal.

Problem is though he will never know if the tranny is getting hot because the cool fluid is mixed in there as well, giving a false reading.

Semms to me the only way to be sure how hot the tranny is actually working at, means you have to put the sender in the Hot line out of the tranny.
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
Thanks you all. I just called him and told him. He feels better about it. I knew I would get an answer or thoughts in a hurry.
;D From ear to ear.
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
Is he concerned that that is too hot? My Allison tranny's have run 150-200 in the summer time, it's stays under 150 right now. Had it get to 215-220 once when it was 100 degrees outside and pulling a loaded 8-horse trailer in stop-and-go traffic ??? :
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
PSDKlone would know, but I think the Frods have a port in the side of the tranny for a probe install.

He too had a temp gauge in his 2001 that never moved off 140 but in his 2002 its goes up and down with load etc.

We think that either he had a bad probe or that it was damaged in the install.. HAve your buddy get the probe checked for proper output just to be sure.. The sensor can be too long and touch the other side of the gallery in the tranny. Check it out.

J-eh
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
Thanks Lil Dog. He said it moved a little on the way back. He is loaded (550 John Deere Dozer). Said it moved slightly. I know he has one bad stroke. I like it, and I am cummins to the bone.

Actually me and Dad decided it is best if I drive a Chevy and he drives a Dodge. Here we are trying to sell Chevy's too and we all drive Dodge's, that doesn't look good for business. No sad to say the HO/48re will be going on the lot and up for sale when it arrives which will be soon considering it is being built this wednesday the 15th
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
On the dirvers side of the tranny (on a Ford) there's a small port (I think 1/8 NTP) with a plug in it. It's about a half inch or so above where the oil pan bolts to the body of the tranny, that's the best spot to take a reading from.

On mine the temps in summer when loaded were right around 180-200 depending on the terrain. Unloaded it stayed right around 150. In the winter it rairly goes above 130.

Hope that helps some.
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
Thanks Central Texan. I don't know much about the Powerstrokes. I think his is great. Rides like a cadillac. Not much power though. Well its really hard to tell when I get out of mine, and then drive his. You know like comparing apples and oranges. Just not fair to decide. :-X
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
The numbers that Central Texan quoted are right on the money with my 02 and I am running my probe in the same location that he described.

If anyone else is running a Joker with the stock transmission temp gauge don't believe it!!! My stock gauge sits in the same place even though the old Autometer jumps between 100°F and 200°F.
Re:Powerstroke Trans. Temps.
I will try to find the #'s for the dummy gauge, I saw them somewhere and it was way off, Bryan you might remember better than me someone had them at one of the meets.
Chase
