trans is searching?
Past couple of days, the transmision has been eratically switching in and out of overdrive at or around 55 mph. Is this a bad TPS/APPS? I've read a little about them, but I'm not sure thats what it is. Where exactly is the TPS located? and can it be checked/adjusted? or do I just replace it? It only seams to act up after the truck warms up.

This is probably caused by electrical noise. Clean the battery terminals and the grounds under the passenger side battery. If this fixes it , it will eventually come back. The best fix is a noise filter from DTT, ( about $40 ) 1 866 504 4002
Many posts on this problem, very common.

I had the same problem as ratsun. I believe the dealership saying something about it being caused by low batteries. It made sense to me at the time because the problem started after my batts died. The reflash fixed it

believe it or not, I found it to be a broken wire in the driving light harness behind the front bumper. Ifixed the lights and the shifting problem magically went away.

Not sure if this is what yours is doing but mine was shifting back and forth at lockup of the tc and near overdrive. I grounded the apps to the battery. the plug for the apps is under the bottom of the apps leftside of the engine where the cables for throttle go in. if you unwrap that wire loom going into the bottom down aways find the black wire with the yellow tracer on it . that should be the #4 on the plug.tape into that its the ground for the apps, ground it to the batt negative. i just did this to my truck and it shifts good now. i think that this includes all truck 98.5-01 not sure on the 02.

Thanks jigdog, after I plugged the driving light harness back in, my problem has never come back. I should just unplug the harness again to see if the problem returns.....but its too darn cold out to play with it now.

apps/tps fix
The thanks goes to "Mcgyver" he helped me through it on my truck. If you go to atsdiesel.com then click the red dodge truck ,then click the technical at the bottom, then go to the apps/tps fix it explains it out of the dodge book.if you can read the wiring diagram its easy.i talked to a guy at ats diesel and he said most of the shifting problem are solved by grounding the apps better to the battery.
