Tranny Finally Installed
Tranny Finally Installed
well, this dang project was drug out forever for many other circumstances and such, but finally got the nv4500 installed, and the truck running yesterday. the last things that were stumping me were, the clutch master/slave cylinder had air in it, and the truck wouldnt turn over 2000 rpms. got a whole new slave/master cylinder system from dodge, kinda expensive $280 and that included the overnight charge. installed it and works great. took it for a test drive, and after i got it running for a while, and went through the gears a bit, the 2000rpm limit went away. one of the dodge techs said that i would have to get a computer from a 5spd to eliminate that problem. when you shut the truck off, and let it sit there for a little bit, it will do the same thing, 2000rpm limit, but once you get down the road, it works fine. at this point im not gonna worry about it. man, i cant believe how much funner it is to drive this thing with a manual tranny
. she sounds good, and its amazing how much more torque you can "feel" than with a stock auto at take off and through the power band. over all, i like it, and thats what i used to drive were manuals. at least for right now, i cant keep the smile off my face when i start goin through the gears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I Forgot
also, i want to thank everyone here for bearing with me, and helpin me along the way with advice on where to get stuff, and how to do this or that

i have noticed though, that my rpms at cruising are a bit higher than with the auto. at 70mph, im right at 2k. before, at 70, id be about 1750-1800. no big deal, to me, itll just keep my speed down a bit more when cruising around here. i have 3.54 gears in the rearend. just curious if that sounds about right.
also, i forgot to mention, that when i bought the tranny, i had to pay a $300 core charge. if i didnt have to pay that, it would have been around 2700 total. that includes everything to go with the tranny, new clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, master/slave cylinder, new tranny bolts, flywheel bolts, pressure plate bolts, and fluid for the tranny and t-case, also, i had to change out the input gear and bearing on the t-case. hope that helps.
