I need to tow another car that weighs no more then 4000lbs + trailer. What do I need to tow. Right now I have a bumper but no hitch (i dont think the bumper will hold that much weight)

 

You can probably get by with a strandard 2" receiver style class III hitch.

 

will a reciever hitch from a 2001 dodge ram 1500 work with my 2001 ram 2500?

 

On my Chev 2500, the bumper was rated for 500 tonque weight, 5000lbs tow weight, funny that it was rated the same as my hitch, I would think your bumper sould be good for 500/5000, Check near your bumper it could be stamped for the max towing. if not the owners manual should have the max towing info in it.

 

I do believe the bumper is rated a class III. Problem is though, on 4x4s, the bumper is usually WAAAY too high.

 

You will also need a wiring kit and brake controller.
