throwout bearing

About how much does an OEM throwout bearing cost? I'm gonna stick with the clutch I have for now due to money but the bearing is pretty sticky and needs replaced. How much can I expect to pay for one?
What would cause mine to get sticky like it is? There is no grease or oil in the housing....just dust.

Hey, how is it going? I am from Wyoming myself, Big Horn Basin. I pulled my clutch at 180000 miles last fall. The clutch plates were not worn out. The fingers on the clutch were worn so thin they were bending when the throwout bearing pressed up against them, so I had to get a new clutch. The throwout bearing was getting sluggish too but not totally worn out, but bad enough it was a deffinite change out. The throwout bearing was pretty cheap at NAPA. I do not remember exactly how much, because it came with the clutch. I put a stock LUK clutch back in because I needed it in hurry, it cost like 350.00 or less and I figured in another 180000 miles I would be in there changing the throwout bearing anyway. The LUK clutch I bought at NAPA was an exact match to the stock clutch. Many will say I should have gotten a southbend clutch, but this clutch works great. I pass by your way occasionally on my way home to visit my Mom and you could check out this clutch if you want to. I ocassionally pull 15000 lbs with no problems. Anyway, it is hard to tell why your throwout bearing failed. It is a hot dirty enviroment and under a lot of pressure. Sometimes a person will keep their foot on the clutch pedal with a just a little pressure and not even realize it. Check to see if this is a habit with people driving your truck. With a little conscious effort you can retrain your foot, opps, I mean someone elses foot to get off the pedal. Some folks will say too that double cluthching will put extra wear and tear on the throwout bearing. Good luck with it.

Thanks for the advice. My bearing did not go out, it's just a sticky while it turns. I had a student put it in the solvent tank for something to do and that freed it up alot, but now all of the internal lube is gone, I suppose.
How do you like the Big horn Basin? i spent a bit of time up there this summer....rodeoed in Cody until i broke my pelvis. (coupled with a terrible GF, that's why my tranny went)

"riding the clutch" is not as big a problem as you might think with a hydraulic clutch...it takes more pressure than just your foot on the pedal to cause the forks to put any force on the throwout bearing......... the older mechanical clutch would wear with slight pressure. just my opinion
