How can i tell if my track bar is bad? I got under the truck and had someone rock the steering wheel back and forth and noticed about 1/16 play up and down movement. Also while rocking steering wheel, noticed small side to side play in the tie rods are those considered bad if they have any movement. Also was able to rotate the tie rod bar up and down while rocking steering wheel, is that normal. Thanks for responses.

 

Sounds like its on its way to being too much, put the front end up on jacks and check for slop in all directions, prolly start savin fer track bar and tierod ends, if these are bad the ball joints are right behind them.How is yer tire wear doing?..........Sorry JMO

 

Also a good way to determine if they are bad is if the thing wanders all over the road. Pretty common for these things, already replaced mine once. Getting a DSS next, that helps a lot.

Its really strange but there is about 4" of play in the steering wheel(2" side to side before you feel any steering) but the truck tracks straight. It just takes a lot of sawing in the curves. Just wondering if you think the steering box is worn or does it need the over center adjustment done.
