Unhappy Help! Tranny Temp

Hey there everyone!
Just installed a BigHoss Mod, level 4, with the GitKit.
Tranny gauge starts to go up sooner than usual.

I understand with my auto, that its the friction from the added power making things possibly slip, but what is a normal operating temp for our autos?
The gauge goes up to like 280 or so, but the top center of the gauge is around 200...

What are safe operating temps for the automatic?

And by the way, BigHoss is a massive kick in the a**

160 - 200 , the lower the temp the longer the oil life...switch to amsoil synthetic. It alone should lower temp 10 degrees or better and keep your planetary gears safer

Are you saying you're getting readings of 280, or that your gauge goes to 280?

While running the stock trans:
Around town, I had temps in the 180-190 range.
On the highway, unless it's pretty warm, maybe temps in the 140-150 range.

Now that I'm running an aftermarket TC & VB, I'll just have to keep an eye on things as the days warm up.

Whoa! Guys, 280 is almost death to a tranny. I'm not familiar with the Big Hoss kit, but you need to keep the temp below 200. I've never exceeded 175 with mine idling, pulling wagons, pulling stumps, pulling powerchokes, or just plain hot rodding around town.

Tranny temp gauge is cheap and easy to install. Get one ASAP!

I have a tranny temp gauge, and it goes up to 280, but the transmission never gets that high, i was just wondering what a normal operating range is.

Where is the sending unit? Is it in the pan or in the oil cooler line?
There will be a big difference. 280 is death if it is in the pan.

My gauge is in the back of the pan, towards the rear of the truck, i did not have any instructions on installing the sensor in one of the lines for the tranny.

You can see temps as hight as 280+ in the hot line, but you should never see that in the pan. If you do, your tranny is a crispy critter. If it still goes, drive it straight to the shop.
