Strange noise
Strange noise
Hi Gang; I am starting to get a howeling noise from some were. Cant tell if it's from the front or back. I did the jack up the front wheel and checked the front hub routine and they both seemed OK. I'm hopeing its not in the rear differential but time will tell. Too bad that the truck is so noisey that I can't zero in on it. I just wanted to find the problem before it fails and costs more to fix. The howel is slightly louder than the combination of the AT tires and the str8t exhaust.
4x4? Is the howl speed dependent, RPM, boost?
If at a certain speed you hear the howl I'd suspect ujoints, fronts if 4x4 first then rears. If boost I'd look into a leak around the grid heater or boots.
Good luck.

No tornado thing a magig, just stock turbo and BHAF. and it is a 2 wheel drive, the growel gets louder as the speed increases. and is not pulseing as if it were in the drive shaft or Ujoints. I'm leanint towards the pinion bearings inthe rear. I did tow heavy for 4 years with my 5th wheel. the pinweight was 2700lbs and the trailer weighed 13500. maybe 80k miles total in those4 years. Thanks for the replies.
