Strange buzzing noise
Strange buzzing noise
This is my first post here, I have lurked for a long time but never had anything to post about, until today. I got out of work today and noticed a strange noise from my truck. Its a 2000 CTD 4x4. Everytime I let off the gas at lower speeds, there is a buzzing sound that to me seems like a wheel bearing, but the sound doesnt happen if I just coast around a corner. My intial thought was that the sound could be my LP going bad, but there isnt any loss of power, just the buzzing noise. It sounds like some sort of winding down noise everytime I let off the throttle. If I make a low speed turn and let off the throttle, the noise is much more distinct. Is my problem something with fuel delivery or does it sound like something with the front end? Thanks guys.

There is no performance difference when a LP is working or not working. Get an in cab fuel pressure guage ($150) to tell if it is working. Without one you can be starving your VP-44 ($2,000 installed) of fuel and burning it up.

Sorry about the bad description of the noise. The sound is like a loud hum, and after tonight, it may even be coming from the rear end. I am having trouble pinpointing exactly where it is coming from, but I will have to have a friend drive next to me and see where it is. It does seem like it is some sort of friction rather than the LP, but maybe that is just wishful thinking. I did a search on fuel pressure gauges and found many, but which brands are supposedly the best? Thanks for all the help guys, its nice to be part of a forum where people want to help, I really appreciate it.
Geno's garage (or any of the suppliers) have a wide choice of guages & help. Just depends on what you want to do, and where you want to mount it. The most important decision in my mind is you have decided to do it. The rest is easy.
Have you checked the power steering fluid?
Fill out your signature (under user CP) so we know what truck you ahve and what mods you have done. Makes life easier.

Wow. Thank you for the recomendation on the power steering fluid: It's BONE dry. I'll be adding some tommorow, praying that I did not damage anything by driving without enough. Has there been any issues with leaks in that system? I cannot really imagine why else there would be none in the truck. Also about the gauges, if I were to buy a gauge seperate, what other items would I need to complete the kit? Also, would their be enough play in the fuel house to use the steering column gauge mount? Thanks again guys, you know your stuff.
Edit: Also, what kind of power steering fluid is recommended? Thanks

Power steering fluid seems to have fixed it for now, although I am sure it will leak again. My question still remains about the gauges, if I were to buy just an isspro fuel pressure gauge, what other items would I need to complete the kit? Also, would their be enough play in the fuel gauge with a line to use the steering column gauge mount?
