Ok took my truck to the dealer about this low speed 20-30mph howling/buzzing noise. Happens either with or without load. Most noticeable when coming to a stop. Pretty annoying. I know someone in here once mentioned that it was the "DRIVESHAFT BEARING" or something of that nature. Does anyone know exactly what this piece is called. Reason why it makes it is because it gets worn out prematurely. And I remember that person said it should be fixed because it can cause more future problems. Can anyone forward me to that post. I couldn't find it. Thxs so much!!!!

 

Also are these driveshaft bearings on a NATIONAL BACKORDER. Someone told me that from the dealership.... I am confused!!! Please help!!!

I get a differential howl when the diff is cold in the 20-30 mph speeds. Once the thing warms up, the noise goes away. As such, I ignore it. I haven't heard anything about driveshaft bearings going bad. Also, you don't list any of the specifications of your truck. That doesn't give us much to go on. And if you don't get a response in 12 hours, just wait a little longer. Responses aren't always instant.

Is the howl at all times or only when cold? Also, do you drive your truck for more than 5 miles at a time? It takes my truck probably about 15 or so before it will actually stop howling.

mine is a 3500 drw qc 6spd. my howling happens at 20-30mph all the time.... i swear someone in here had something replaced and it fixed it. he went on to say that if any of us have a similar problem he could fax/post his receipt so we can show the dealerships that are in denial. CaN THIS GUY PLEASE STEP UP.. really need help!!!

I think it's a howl from a cold turbo. Mine did this yesterday when I started the truck and turned on the high idle. Same howl as when I would just start up and drive 20-30 mph cold.

 

It sounds like a hoot owl at about 20 mph when under 50 degrees and I am quite sure that it is the rear carrier bearing transmitting resonance through to the chassis as it does not sound like a rear differential problem. I plan on taking mine in next week to try and get it fixed--will let you know the outcome.

Sheesh!! Now mine is getting the sympathetic howl too at under 20.

 

yeah it sucks.... BTW the dealer finally called me in... so no National Back Order I guess..LOL!!! cool will update who she purrs after install....
