Still smokin'
Still smokin'
I'm still getting white smoke out of the exhaust. I rented a fuel pressure tester to check how much pressure going into the injector pump and to verify my in cab gauge. I momentarily cranked the starter to get the lift pump to run and the 2 gauges read the same- 23 psi. Started the truck and ran the r.p.m. to 2000. Both gauges reading about 18-19 psi. After running to get the temp up, I ran it up to 3000 r.p.m.
with no pressure drop. Went back to idle and the pressure rose slightly to 20 psi. I erased the codes
( 0216 ) set twice, but not sure when the codes were set. With all this fuel pressure, why is the injector pump failing? The smoke thing happened about a year and a half ago towing my 10,000 lb. 5th wheel.
Went to a reputable diesel shop, but they found no problem. Towed home ( 825 miles ) with no more smoke problem until now! I use Diesel Service cetane boost and injector cleaner ( Diesel Kleen )
With my fuel and install new fuel filters at recommended intervals, so I'm at a loss. I hate throwing parts at a problem, but if it is the injector pump, then I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet!

Well, P0216 rears it's ugly head again..
I'd suggest that you follow the excellent diagnostic path by bluechip diesel, https://www.bluechipdiesel.com/troub...uick-reference
Other possible reasons for white smoke: Contaminated/Bad fuel(including additives), sticking/worn injectors, coolant leaking into the combustion chamber and oil consumption.
