Starts out in third gear
Starts out in third gear
I have 2001 Dodge 3500 w/138,000 miles on it and I don't think it ever shifted right since I have had it. Sometimes it would stay in low till about 22mph then shift, like it was against the governor. It would do this at every time you came to a stop. Sometimes if you would wait 5 seconds and barely creeped forward it would shift into 2nd then 3rd quickly. This weekend I serviced tranny, which it has a 14 bolt pan, I don't know which transmission it is either, and there was nothing in pan but a little on the magnet. I adjusted the bands and put in a bottle of lucas transmission to help it, but it still does the same thing as before. To get it to low now you have to manual shift it. It kinda sucks because I know it has to be something electrical in trans. The detent is right on also because I checked it and it will downshift out of overdrive and from 3rd to second but it will not shift right on its own. Any info would be appreciated.
I'm not sure.
Mine was covered under warranty, $100 deductable.
Mine was all over the place, starting in 3rd, starting in 2nd, starting in 1st but wouldn't upshift no matter what I did.

Had the same problem on an earlier truck. I learned that it can be repaired without buying new gov. press. solenoids .

Welcome to the DTR!
Phox ya missed that one.
Had 2 members of our chapter with the same problems and we changed out the pressure solenoid and sensor and that fixed it. Give it a shot.
