Sorry, cold high idle not working????

I will have to ask again, how does it work. My Dodge dealer downloaded the high idle for me, charged me $41.00 which I thought was decent enough. I left it parked for two days not plugged in, -20c or -2f, started not too bad. I left idle for 20 minutes and nothing happened, stayed right at 850 rpm. Automatic transmission, in park, park brake not pushed down, I stayed outside the truck in case my presence would stop it from working. What am I doing wrong? Or did the download not work, or it dosen't it work on Tuesdays , Or should I go stand behind the house away from the truck? I am not upset with dealer, I think it was his first try at this.

set the brake...not sure but i think it needs to be pushed in order to come on.

if that doesnt work then you may have a dirty intake air temp sensor not reading the proper outside air temp

Simple error on the Dealerships part.

They forgot the important step, enable the 3 cyl idle function.

The TSB has it worded a bit confusingly, like you only have to enable it if you want the 3 cyl idle portion of it,
but you need to enable it to have any part of the cold weather idle active.

Print out the TSB, and highlite the section where it says they need to enable it before saving or exiting.

It's step 14 on the TSB:
http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2001/18-019-01.htm

Tell them that's the only step they need to do, you already have the program in there, just not active,
so I guess steps 7 through 16 need to be followed.

Thanks , I will talk to them tommorrow, I went to change altenator tonight, but the one they sent had no pulley and the shaft was too small for my pulley. I guess if we did not have these trucks to work on life would be boring.

I've got an appt in about 3 hours for this very same thing. I hope it works for both of us!

I'm going to be out of town in very cold parts for the next 4 weeks and electrical outlets may be few and far between.

Talking Brake pedal

When you start the truck DO NOT have your foot on the brake pedal,,That will shut off the high idle option,Set the parking brake,
also make sure they Enabled The software not just installed the software..2 Steps install and enable..
Mine works great,, I have only had the three cyl part kick in once,,But the High idle part has been working every day for about a month now......

Good Luck

I found out last week after work two things about this.
1- parking brake doesn't have to be set.
2- i drove it about 100 yards parked (no parking brake) got out of my truck to load something and the high idle kicked in.
Really suprised me i thought the P brake had to be on but i guess not.
Thanks to GB5.9 for the use of his Smarty. Forget the car places that rip you off, find a fellow member who has a Smarty and get it for free.

Just a note: SB says that if the block heater is used, the function will not work.

Thanks to all, esp. Phox. I brought it back to the dealer yesterday, and told him exactly what you said about enabeling. Also showed him the TSB. All set now. The high idle kicked right in this am. I had a different dealer do this two years ago. Didn't work. Got my $$ back, they said there was something wrong with my truck. Idiots.
This board is a wealth of info. Thank you.

It took me 3 tries over 2 winters before it finally worked.

I didn't get any money back though.
