Smoking?

After leaving my truck parked for several hours then starting it I notice the exhaust smoking a little, the smoke is a white blue colour. The engine idle,s a little rough so in an attempt to clear it I pushed the accelerator and the smoke becomes thick while the engine runs very rough. After 20 or so secs releasing the accelerator it quickly runs normal and all seems to be OK from here on. This has happened the last two times I started it and I'm concerned something is about to crater.
The lift pump was replaced 2 months ago and the dealer said the VP44 was working fine. (Seat of the pants test)
I would sure appreciate any ideas of what this could be and or advice from this knowledgeable forum.

It sounds to me like you are getting air into the fuel system. Check all the lines for leaks. Just my two cents someone else will chime in if I am wrong.

it's air. I have the same thing, except starts REAL hard. Now you gotta find where the air is getting in.

Thanks for the response guys I'll see if I can find an airleak.
This looks to be an intermitant problem because today it started and ran like a charm, go figure.

You might want to pay attention to the fuel level when it acts up, several people have had troubles with pin holes in the fuel pickup tube. As long as the fuel level is above these 'holes' you have no problem, but below them, you get air.

Good luck.
Duane.

DuaneWKKC, Interesting that you mentioned the low fuel level, the day you posted is the day I filled up and my problem hasn't returned, yet. I'm not using my truck much these days as I ride my motorbike in the summer but I will pay close attention when the level heads below 1/4 tank.
Thanks for the suggestion.
