Signs of injector going bad?
Sometimes when my truck is under load or going up a hill with RPM's around 2000 I can hear a slight ticking noise running very fast. I only seem to hear it after truck is fully warmed up & RPM's are up. Don't really hear it when truck is idleing...Truck is running great....Not missing at all & starts on first crank....Get a little bit of white smoke on cold starts when temps are low & grid heaters are cycling...I'm assuming this is normal....
Could this sound be coming from an injector?....I've already pulled the valve cover & checked valve clearance....everything there is normal....
Thanks for any help or suggestions.....

I doubt you'll hear anything from the injector, since the engine and VP are so loud. When my injectors stuck open, it was blowing copious amounts of white smoke and would run like crap above an idle. These were with large injectors, mind you. Stock to mild injectors might not be as noticeable. If in doubt, pull them and have them checked.

Another sign of injectors going bad is that it will get hard to start when it is below freezing. When my injectors went, it wouldn't start below 0 unless it was plugged in. But you may not get much cold weather down in Alabama.

I would inspect your exhaust manifold for cracks. Epescially were is bends to make the turbo moutn. My 99 started to make that noise and now it cracked all the way around and hear it all the time.

Thanks for the replies. I guess it's not an injector problem then from what you guys have said. I'm not really having any problems with truck starting when cold or running rough at all. I guess I will check the exhaust manifold that you mentioned to make sure there is nothing loose or any cracks. I just don't like ticking noises and it kind of drives me crazy....Kind of reminds me of the sound a spedometer makes when it has a problem & ticks when you're going down the road....

yeah, we used to not get very much cold weather at all but lately it has been getting down into single digits sometimes....i know that's not very cold compared to most.....it always seem to start fine though even in single digit temps.....
