Is this just a head's up or is Geno's the real deal? I imagine that the one I bought is a bootleg, but the ad described it as an original.
I have to give it to you and the mods, ya'll sure do a great job here. I got a warning yesterday saying that (#$%@) was just as bad as using the foul words. I apologize and keep up the good work.

i am sure ed was mentioning is because of your post. the genos site sells legit service manuals. no worries about those.
however, we may have to put flaming bamboo under your fingernails to ensure it doesnt happen again..

I personally would not use a Haynes on one of these things, they tend to be way too generic for even routine maintenance, example, fuel filter 94-96,97-99,2000-02, which one would they show?
Hate to sya it, but if you have plenty of time you can find a decent buy on Ebay on a FSM, I know I did after I bought a new one from Geno's.

I have always gotten a Haynes manual for every "new to me" vehicle, and have had nothing but good things to say about the, HOWEVER.....
The '96 CTD 3500 is both the newest vehicle I've gotten a Haynes for and the first diesel I've had - big difference in the coverage that Haynes provides. It's still a good resource - pictures help when you have NO clue what the heck that thingy-bobber looks like, let alone where the HECK it's located
The Haynes does leave you hanging though, on the things the almighty DC folks want you to bring in to their annointed dealer network for (inevitable??) repairs...
I finally put up the bucks to get the FSM on CD from Genos' Garage, and am finding it to also be fairly obtuse. The way it's broken into sections makes it a real learning curve to troubleshoot symptoms, and the dang electrical schematics drive me around the bend - NO overall key to systems that I've found, so it's darn hard to put 2 and 2 together to get from point A to Point B and trace a problem in a circuit.
FORTUNATELY, there is this forum, and a ton of helpful people who have opened their hand to give sage advice and aid to this neophyte diesel mech.
Couldn't have done it without you, guys! Kudos, and THANKS!

I picked up the factory service manuals for my truck off ebay at a reasonable price. It's nice to have the printing and you can always run off a copy and take it with you to get dirty/greasy and trash when you're done. It does make it easier to follow, esp. electrical diagrams.

Some of the E-bay disks are truly legit, and can be had for much less than new. Some people who buy newer manuals that come with CDs don't like CDs and would sell them, keeping paper copies. Besides, Cummins now uses Hexalock protection to prevent illegal copying.
