running abnormally rich on startup . . .

hey all,

well my truck is as you see it in sig. lately for the past couple of weeks i have noticed my truck running rich and abnormally hazey/smokey on startup until it is warm.

i know this is somewhat normal - but the startups have been much more rich/hazey than they usually are . . . this is why i am concerned.

any thoughts as to why, or what i should check next to report back with?
- there are no new codes
- i have noticed no other new symptoms (although VP44 has been shuddering for a while now)
- oil was just changed

thanx!
jason

i wondered if that was it. i had that code once i think, cleared with the smarty and it has been gone for months now. i am noticing the vp shuddering like i said, plus it is starting to get noisier as well.

i had a hunch, but wasn't sure a failing vp would give me these smokey symptoms . . .

anyone else have any input?

TIA

OK - I have to ask, and please pardon my ignorance. You know that I am totally a diesel newbie. When it is cold outside, and I mean good old Alberta -25 deg cold, my CTD smokes like crazy and hazes the entire parking lot. I do not plug it in or anything like that so it is really frickin' cold when I fire it up.

I always thought that it was normal for a diesel to put out a haze like that when it was really cold out. Am I wrong? Can someone clarify this for me? I also run PS supplement in my fuel - does this contribute to the haze?

This has been bugging me a lotand I would like to put my mind at ease or at least "in the know" about the matter.

Cheers!

Mike

i am in alberta too mike. it is normal to smoke pretty good (usually bluish white) when on a cold startup. i have that too, my issue is that it is more than what it usually is . . .

put your mind at ease, that is normal as far as i know. if i were you i would try and plug in though. makes those cold morning starts MUCH nicer!
