Running rich
Running rich
I have read that a diesel can't run rich. But I don't know how else to explain it. I have a 1997 bone stock 215 hp 12 valve. When I'm hooking up a trailer with it running it will burn your eyes like crazy. If I had to say what smoke it has I would say blue I know blue means oil but this smells like fuel. Has anybody ever ran across this
The part of the exhaust that burns your eyes is un burnt hydrocarbons due to incomplete combustion. It is microscopic droplets of diesel fuel getting into your eyes. Probable cause is worn pump and injectors which don't atomize the fuel fully at idle which cause larger drops of fuel to come out of the injector. The larger drops will not burn at idle and pass right out the exhaust.
