Question RPM/Overdrive

I noticed yesterday just after getting on the freeway that I heard an audible click or snap it wasn't loud but it was noticable. While trying to figure out what it was, I noticed that my RPM's had dropped by approx. 200 yet my speed was still constant. HUH?????

At approx 106k miles, did something finally break in and start working correctly? LOL

I know this is no laughing matter and I am concerned about it. I have no idea where the noise came from and everything seems to be running normally. I'm running 4:10's and at approx 65 or so MPH the RPM's were appox 2100 (that first line past 2K) but now when I'm going between 65 to 70, I'm only running maybe a thin hair over 2k RPM's.

Just curious to see if anyone has any idea's???

Maybe something finally started to work.
Seriously, I'm running 3.55s with 285s and only running 1700 rpm. Mine snaps and shimmies every so often, but only when I run it hard. I've got about 117,000 now and it still has the original trans in it, but I have a feeling not for too much longer.

I take it you bought the truck used, sounds like the torque converter may have locked up for the first time. Quite possibly a TPS problem. A search here for TPS will give you lots of reading.

I would agree with you on this if it had been used - but I bought it new. I learned a long time ago to stop buying used vehicles - you end up (not all the time) buying other people's problems.

I will check into the TC issue though, I've been wondering about it and what kind of issues it can have.

I've got the same setup, 4:10's with an auto. At 2K RPM I'm running 62mph ... I've got 121K, bought used. I hope I hear that 'snap' noise soon!
