rpm guage quits and power lose

rpm guage quits and power lose

so taoday i was going down the roda just bought the truck 3 weeks ago 2001 ctd 3500 and the rpm quit and the check eng light cam on and it lost alot of power but then 10 minutes latter rpm gauge started working but the check eng light stayed on and i checked the codes with the key and no codes what could be causeing it to do this?? thanks mike

Sounds like your cam position sensor. my truck just did this a month ago. threw a 1693 code when it acted up though.

Sounds like Crank position sensor behind starter if 2001 still had them,and if you do pull starter change solenoid contacts they're burnt up more than likely.PITA to pull starter.

Yep, I'd say Cam position sensor. 2001's don't have a separate crank position sensor I don't believe. Cam position sensor is on the front, under the injection pump. Pain in the neck to change, but possible without removing injection pump.

correct, they changed it to cam position sensors in 2001

yea the tech jumps around at idle.so its the cam pos sesnor?it done it tonight and when it does the tech just quits and goes to 0 then out of nowhere it will just come back up so how is the easiet way to change it??thanks mike

ya thats definitely the cam sensor. check this out CLICK HERE

its a diagram, its number 11. ive never done one myself but it looks like a tight fit without removing the IP. I think they are allen screws

very tight fit. theres only 1 screw and its a 5 mm allen.
