Rotella T and me

Quick little question on the rotella T 15 40 I just put in my truck, it has soot control and all that good stuff, but it has the funkiest smell...I am just not sure if it is supposed to or not...but the truck seems to like it lol.

Check the Shell website for motor oils. A while back there was a batch of Rotella T 15w-40 put on the market that had a slightly different chemical formulation, and that particular batch was associated with a bad smell. Shell claims that the formulation does not effect thermal stability, wear factors, pour points, shear, etc. However, they have offered to "buy back" or "replace" the oil in question. The details are on the site - or were six months ago, last time I looked at it.

The rotten, off smell was only on synthetic Rotella.
Rota-smella always stinks like burning oil for the first few hundred miles.
The smell is a paraffin type additive that is used to hold the additives in suspension burning off.
Delo also does this also but to a lesser extent.

I only have ever used Rosmella T and have found it to be kind of stinky for the first 200 miles or so, then it seems to dissapate......heck, I'm so used to the Rosmella smell that I actually kind of like it!!

Why don't you guy relocate the crankcase vent. Then you won't smell it...

I'm using standard ol' Dino Juice Phillip 66 it still has a stink but with the tube relocated I can't smell it... It goes under the truck...

My breather is relocated to dump right in front of the transfer case.......I only smell the Rosmella outside of the truck.

Speaking of Rotella, I guess I am a Delo man now. Went to Sam's today to get oil. Rotella was up to $42 per case of 6 gals. Right next to it was the Chevron Delo for $38.

6.72 a Gallon at Wal-Mart last week. Not too bad. What's too bad is that price is only avaiable because they barely pay the employees enough to stay alive.
I have used Rotella T ever since I got my Diesel and use it in my tractor too.
