Replaced vp44, WOW

Finally got tired enough of the "dead pedal" and replaced the vp44 with a "HO" unit. I read that an IP that is going bad can keep working at around 85%. I believe mine has been for the last year or so. I now have so much more power it is stunning. The idle is a little rough right now, almost like it has a miss in it, but hit the throttle and it takes off.

Thanks to every one on this site I have learned quite a bit about my truck. You guys are great!!!

If you went with a HotRod VP-44, I seen quite a few posting about a "lope" at idle after the install.

roger that... I've read a lot of posts about rough idle after installing the HRVP-44.

Yeah, it is the hot rod vp44. When I started it this morning idle seemd fine. Drove it a bit and idle back to rough. Shut it off to fill the fuel tank and same thing, good idle at start up but then rough after driving even a very short distance. Everything sounds good while driving, no missing. Guess that is the nature of the beast. Small price to pay for the extra power I now have!

Thanks again for the information. It makes me feel better that this is probably normal.

As soon as I get 200K "Offically" on my VP-44 (P.J. bet me $7,500 in would not make it that far) I'm gonna change it out. Mine makes all kinds of weird chattering noises when I go WOT at 60MPH.

i talked to doug at diesel performance warehouse, and he said that the lope at idle with a HRVP is normal, but, it's a crap shoot to who it happens with, he said some do and some don't, but it's all good, i'd think i'd like it personally, kinda like a souped up street rod that is camming, that's what i imagine

Now that you mention that.. ive heard that from my truck since the day i bought it.. i put about 12,000 miles on it (up to about 225k?) and then the vp44 went out.

So that weird sound when the gas is pushed was the vp44... that bugged the heck out of me! I got so used to it, that i didnt realize i dont have it anymore now !
