Shocks replaced, WOW!

On my previous truck, I put on the Rancho's RSX 9000's. I thought they were good. Well, to me, that is no longer true. I put on a set of Bilsteins, man, them Germans know how to build a shock. I went down to the road I take everday, it rattled me good, but not today. These things really smoothed it out and I wasn't hopping like before. Thought I'd share my experience with these in case anyone is looking down the road.

Good to know. Where did you get the blisteins? I'd consider them for my 4x2.

I think I'm in the market for some new shocks too. Those sound pretty good! The stock ones seem to be just about worn out.

I have been waiting for months to get them for my 2x4 truck but they have not made the Bilstiens for them yet. Glad to hear they are working like a real shock should..

I thought Bilstein didn't have shocks out for Cummins equipped models yet? That's cool if they do now.

I put on the these part #'s for Bilsteins:
BE5-2549 FRONT
BE5-2550 REARS

Same length as the originals and work fine. These are for the trucks with the Cummins Application. I know there was alot of discussion that Bilstein does not have a shock for the 3rd Gens, but these do work, and do they ever. They suck up them bumps. It is a noticeable improvement. I paid 219 for the set off of Ebay. Let me tell you, you better have some powerfull air tools. Them dang bolts were on there. My body made noises that I never heard before when trying to unbolt them (relieved some pressure too).

I have the Bilstien 5100's on mine. If you are stock, and have an Auto Zone in your area, they can get them for you. If not, give jackit.com a call at 1-888-452-2548. Prices are about the same at either of these places, within a buck or two. Look for the Bilstien 5100's, I really like the ride, and they look pretty good with their brushed stainless look (zinc).

On the 4x4, it is a strut type shock (no eye on top) in the front. The rears are regular old shocks. Don't know about the 2 wheelers.

They take the bumps better but what about the corners on those twisty mountain highways? I had bilstiens on my 1976 240d last forever but I don't want to loose handling with a stiffer shock you sometimes feel like your going to brake loose on the corners.

36k on my truck now and it feels like it needs shocks. Roads around here are fairly rough too.

Do the Bilstiens provide a more compliant ride (softer) or is it just better control of the springing action and still stiff?

TIA - JKE

JKE:

I can say, I had over 3400 miles on my OEM shocks before I replaced them. Though they were OK, nothing to write home about, they really made the truck unstable over rough spots. Things like your steering wheel moving around trying to catch up, your rear bouncing and skipping, cornering a bit nervously with a bit of sway, and not really in total control. When I put the bilsteins on, my ride is much better. All that I mentioned have been corrected noticeably. The bumps are not harsh and does feel more comfortablel. Mind you it still is a 7k truck. But all I ca say I notice the improvement and I am pleased.
