reflashing ecm...

Ok i have been told that to put the nv4500 in my 2001 auto truck, i will have to have my "ECM" "reflashed"....can anyone tell me if this is correct???

If so, where do i go to have this done, and what kind of cost is involved???

I did an auto/nv 4500 swap on a 98.5 and didnt have to reflash ecm.I didnt even have to change the pcm and evertything worked fine and still does. The edge ez will also interchange and work fine also.

Awesome...thats what i was hoping to hear..i have been told all these differnt things about why i should do the swap, but i figured if i asked and checked into it long enough surely id find sumone that had done it before. did u think it was worth the trouble? and was there any other surprises or parts i need besides the real obvious..tranny, shifter, hole in floor, pedal assembly, clutch mastercylinder...???????

thanks again.

I have not done one if the swaps, but I would think you would have to flash the PCM not the ECM. PCM is the one that controls the tranny.

pcm only controls the auto, and maybe the cruise control, but i have been known to be wrong a few times

I didnt have to change the PCM when i did the swap.Just had to change the obvious things like you had stated above. The only thing that i cant figure out is why the cruise control isn't working now.Other than that everything works like a dream and I think it was definately worth it caused I only used it to pull and the standard pulls a so much better than the auto did.

thats good to hear...if i got it all working and only problem was the lack of cruise control i would be thrilled...i have never used it anyways...did u buy all the parts new to do it or used off ebay??? and do u happen to know what all years are interchangable for the pedals and clutch master cylinder assembly??

I got all the parts used off a 2000 model. I'm not 100% sure on the parts interchanging on all years but i would think that the pedals and clutch cylinder would be.Usually 98.5-2000 and 01-02 are were the differences are on most electronics but I dont think so on things like pedals and such.As far as the wiring I just did like you was thinking and zip tied them out of the way.Havent had any trouble with any wiring still so i guess its good to go.
