My Chassis wiring harness is all hacked up And I found someone who has one off a ext cab long bed truck will this work on my dually? Did they make any big changes on the second gens with the harness? Your help would be great

 

I don't think a whole lot changed in the wiring during that time. Chase it around and see.

I've ran circles around the internet and havn't found there to be an issue. The harness is also coming off of a 98.5-99 truck so I should be good. Also, I 'll ask this: My fuel gauge goes to empty at about 3/4 of a tank and comes back up. Is the sending unit going bad?

 

The senders are known to fail. Especially if the high speed big rig pumps are used during fill-ups. They lie in the path of the fill hose and take a beating supposedly. This can lead to early failures.

I just replaced the sender in mine yesterday. It did not appear to me to be in the fuel fill path at all. It is on the opposite side and the float goes forward and away from the fill path. It may be different on the earlier models as it appears they have a different sender.

 

From my symptoms does it appear that the sending unit is on its way out?

 

Russ may be right, I'm going off previous threads I have read. Most fuel gauge problems were from the sender, not the gauge or related wiring.
