Egts soaring
Egts soaring
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what to do about my EGT levels. Just normal acceleration in the interstate on ramp i hit 1200 to
1300 degrees under normal acceleration. The HX 40 i have on the truck seems to have a lot larger exhaust housing than is needed from what everyone i have talked to is telling me. I would like any input on what i could do to lower my egt's. I have looked into water meth injection but am not real impressed. But any input is appreciated. I have had it hit 1700-1800 degrees once.

Whats your boost at? Have you verified the pyro is correct? 1200 degrees just cruising seems awfully high for a turbo thats working right. The old first gens had housings that were up to 21cm and were ok, so anything on that HX40 should be keeping your engine cooler than 1200.
What is the best way to go about verifying the pyro is correct. My Boost when accelerating heavily is 20-40 psi and just normal acceleration is about 5-20. How do i figure out what size housing in on the turbo.
The size is stamped inside the ex inlet but it should also be on the outside of the housing on a holset. Look for a string of numbers on the ex casting usually the first 2 will be the size#.

Up there, too
0124vCTD, I'm seeing same EGT's as you and my boost numbers match yours. I verified that my probe was located on the manifold and not downline (which might account for higher numbers). I'm at a loss as to why it runs so high. When I put my in-the-bed camper on I get nervous driving up grades as I usually settle into 14 or higher.
Boost (no wind) should be in the 4-6 psi range, on an HX-40 at 70 mph, level ground.... if turbine housing is right size.
