98 12V High egts ?

I got a 98 12V 5 spd with the TST #10 plate, K&N filter, and almost stock exhaust. My question is why are my egt's so high? I can hit 1500 deg easy unloaded. Crusing at 70 MPH egts are about 1000 deg. Seems high no ? ???

What turbo do you have?
Have you modified the Wastegate?
How much does your truck weigh?
What boost are you seeing when cruising at 1,000*?
What boost are you seeing at 1,500*?

Re:98 12V High egts ?

Stock turbo, Still waiting for my boost gauge, been almost a month. Havent touched the wastegate per say, added the restrictecd oriface in the TST kit. Really wish I had my boost gauge. I only have 95000 km's on the truck so I don't know if I want to get a bigger turbo but the EGT's are scaring the ^%$# out if me. This is empty, imagine when towing...
Checked all couplings and are tight and not leaking... Empty weight of the truck is unknown, 1998 Reg Cab, long box 4x4 ?

That # 10 is probably too much for the stock turbo, you can try to slide the plate back to the "stock" position and see of that cools you off any. Also the stock exhaust is probably hurting you quite a bit, you can try to bump it up to a 4 inch system but if you wnat to do it right go ahead and slap a bigger=better turbo on and go from there ;D 8).
Good luck coolin her off,

I think the stock turbo should handle it fine. You really need to get that boost gauge working. You don't need anything fancy just to test the boost...go to a farm equipment store or a swimmming pool supplier.

Re:98 12V High egts ?

well I have the 160 pump and you have the 215 which means you are pushing more hP than me with the #10 plate I have the same plate and a set of 370 injectors and I see 1500 like I see my Girlfriend you need a bigger turbo on less fuel. on thing that would help you is a 16cm turbo housing. it helped me out a lotand I can tow and keep the egts in the yellow : but I can still peg it when ever I want it's just a little harder than it was with the 12cm
