when installing pyro probe pre turbo, how far should probe extend into exhuast manifold. does it even matter. right now my probe is 1\8 inch from touching bottom. (my pyro probe that is).

thanks all, mooseman

It should be placed so the tip is near the center of the runner.

If you can move it... I finally went to a system where I use anti sieze on the fitting and remove it by disconnecting the wires and just remove the whole fitting. Probes are expensive and once in they like to stay there. I even tried reaming out the fitting to a larger size, but still could not get it out without trashing the probe. Course I have experience in taking my motor apart Lately its the monthly maintenance routine.

no problems at all. i did not pull the turbo completley off. all i did was loosen the four turbo bolts, separate the turbo from the manifold enough to get a peice of cardboard between them. i still had 1\4 inch gap between cardboard and manifold so any chips that fell inside the manifold fell out hit cardboard and then hit the ground. then i cleaned out what chips didnt roll out with a q-tip that had a dab of grease on the end. alot of guys say the small chips will not hurt the turbo but i got out all i could anyway.

That is a good idea. I am going to drill mine soon. I have a 5" exhaust coming in the mail along with a AFE stage I intake. I will install all of it at the same time. I just installed my aux. fuel tank today. It is 72 gal. with a custom toolbox on top. I had it built at a local weld shop (aluminum). It is pretty cool! I will get a digital pic of the install and post it.

I've used the same pyro probe for different gauges. I need to mount it higher up in the stream but oh well. It's on my list of "Things I need to do, but don't really want to do".

I did mine exactly as mooseman said except i fired the motor with the cardboard in place to be sure any chips got blown out. you can do it almost as quick the right way in the manifold v/s installing it in the improper place the exhaust pipe.
