Problem with APPS or Edge EZ?
Problem with APPS or Edge EZ?
Here's what I'm running; 2001 HO 6 spd manual, hauling heavy with a cabover camper towing a loaded cargo trailer. Running an Edge EZ box and RV275 injectors. Recent oil change, air filter cleaning, and fuel filter change.
Here's the problems;
-Lightly accelerating in 4th or 5th gear around 1500 rpm up there is a surging. Mash on the go pedal, or step harder on the pedal, then no surging.
I always try to go light on the go pedal to keep the smoke down.
- After miles of cruise control Interstate driving, sometimes the idle won't come down below 1000-1100 rpm. How do I know? The exhaust brake won't work dropping down hills and when I stop to investigate I see the high idle.
Trying to kick down the go pedal to get normal idle back doesn't work.
Shutting down the engine and restarting DOES reset to normal idle - which is about 900 rpm with the Edge EZ. Exhaust brake works again.
- Noticed poorer fuel mileage by 2 to 3 MPG on a recent trip. While driving loaded (the truck, not me
) I try to roll onto the throttle to keep the smoke down, but on this trip noticed a LOT more smoke than in the past.
- I have to do annual emissions testing, have been doing so with the exact same equipment for the last 10 years. The test this week showed a jump from 10% to 31% smoke opacity in the pulldown test. Almost didn't pass emissions
So, which component do you think is causing these problems?

OK, took it to Advanced Auto and there are NO codes set.
Strange...
If I take the Edge EZ out, it'll set off boost codes because the waste gate is blocked. Isn't there some way to disable the EZ
but leave the boost fooler working?

I agree on the edge...seen a few of them cause driveability issues.
I would suspect it even more now that you have verified no codes through the OBDII.
On the edge you have to disconnect it, not just turn it off, to be completely sure it is or isn't causing your driveability issues.
