Power Steering Fluid Change
Power Steering Fluid Change
I want to change my power steering fluid to Amsoil (all other fluids done) and I'm looking for some ideas on how to do a complete fluid change at home. I don't want to do the old "turkey baster" and refill method unless I have to. I have some ideas of my own but I'm asking to see if anyone has a better way. Also, I assume I will use Amsoil Universal ATF unless someone convinces me otherwise. Thanks in advance!
Re:Power Steering Fluid Change
Haven't done it on a Dodge Ram, but on a few other cars. It helps to have a helper and some extra fluid available too.
I jacked front wheels off the ground; removed the return line from pump reservoir and put it into a bucket; plugged the resulting hole in the reservoir; started the engine and have the helper turn the steering wheel back and forth while you pour the fresh fluid into the pump.
Stop when the fluid running into the bucket is clean. Button it all back together, check the level and clean up the mess you probably made.
I've done the turkey baster method too; both have thier disadvantages.
