Power Steering Fluid Change

I just finished replacing the o-rings on my vacuum pump. Since I had it off the truck I also cleaned the PS resevoir and the filter screen in the bottom of the pump...It looked to be completely clogged.

What would be the best way to flush the system of all the old PS fluid??? I have a vacuum/pressure bleeding kit and thought if I hooked this up to the return lines one at time I could draw all the old fluid out of the steering box and the hydroboost. Would this work??? Thought I could avoid the trouble of jacking up the front end and turning the wheel over and over again.

Also, is the Valvoline Syn Power(Part# VV056) from AdvanceAuto good to replace the OEM fluid??? I'm wanting to go with synthetic, just want to make sure this is the right stuff.

Only way I have ever done a flush is get yourself a few extra quarts of fluid. Have someone in the truck while its running turning the wheel back and forth. And keep dumping the fluid into the resivour, let er burp and puke the old fluid out untill it looks clean again. (just place a drain pan under the truck) Prolly isnt the right way of doing and most think im nuts about it doing it that way. But it seems to work for me..... I think Amsoil universal synthetic ATF will work wont it????

The Valvoline will work for your truck, I wouldn't use any kind of ATF.

The Valvoline is excellent. It's the only synthetic I can find and it make a difference.
I just use a battery filler and suck out about 10 oz from the reservoir and add new. I did this @ 2 weeks or so till fluid cleared up. A painless 10 min process.

I got everything flushed out and new Valvoline Synthetic in. I used a Vacuum/Pressure test kit to flush the system. Hooked it up to the return line from the steering box, sucked out all the old fluid into a catch bottle while adding new to the resevoir. Added about 1.25 quarts before

Finished up fluid change today...

I got everything flushed out and new Valvoline Synthetic in. I used a Vacuum/Pressure test kit to flush the system. Hooked it up to the return line from the steering box, sucked out all the old fluid into a catch bottle while adding new to the resevoir. Added about 1.25 quarts before it ran through the entire system coming out clean and clear. Started truck, drove around the block and topped off with a few more ounces. No foaming, no air pockets, fluid in resevoir still looks brand new. Between the new fluid and cleaning the PS pump filter there's a world of differnce.
