Please Help! - Turbo problems??

Was towing my boat yesterday when I started to hear an unusual squeal, which was followed by a puff of smoke. It was hot so I thought I may have been overheating. Water temp was on the high side of "normal", and came down. Afterwards - or on the way home I noticed lower power and less turbo spool. only between 0-5 psi on Edge Juice monitor. usually much higher. Also dumping unusual amount of black smoke. Also noticed much higher EGT's.

Made it home ok, but am afraid that my turbo may be fried. Anyone have anything similar happen or know what may be my problem?

Thanks
Mike

Sounds like you may have popped or blown an intercooler boot. Check them closely.

Pull the intake hose off the turbo. Spin and move the impeller shaft. It should spin very easy, make no noises, and not contact anything. The impeller blades should also be fairly clean and look perfect.

I'm thinkin you blew an intercooler boot , but check the turbo as sug'd. A little side to side is ok but just a little.

PS Make sure its cool!!! when you do this.

Thanks for the help guys. (and to the search feature) Checked all the intercooler boots and clamps, and were ok. Then noticed my wastgate was kind of flapping around when I moved it and found the linkage disengaged. Guess the clip disappeared. Got it back together and it came right back to life!

Thanks again
