PCM Problems............. STILL!

I've posted my problem before and I've tried everything that the board suggested. However my problem still exists! What I have is this, while driving, CEL sometimes will flash on and off, sometimes it'll stay on, somtimes the gauges will go to zero sometimes not, somtimes I get "NOBUS" on the odomitor, sometimes the overhead readout will read "CCC", the truck will stumble sometimes pretty bad sometimes just enough to let me know something is up! Now it seems to happen more going uphill when the temprature outside is below 40*. Had it to a couple mechanics( I use this term loosly), dealer included. One said he couldn't see anything wrong and looked at me like I were the idiot. The dealer says I need a new PCM, that it's "going" bad! That was 2.5 years ago...... I 've checked the ground wire, nothing wrong there still cleaned it and greased it, checked for loose or broken wiring couldn't find any..... Now I've had an idea. Can I buy another used PCM hook it up and see if it takes care of the problem? Will I have to have it reflashed or can I just plug and play? Please help it's driving the wife crazier than she all ready is, which in turn makes my life tougher! Sorry for the long post. And THANKS for any info!

on your ground wires, were did you check ?dont check for voltage, check for amps. you have two 10ga. ground wires one at each battery. follow each one to the gray plug ( about 12 inches ). pull on this plug to see if there loose....even if there not, butt connect each one.

we had a delivery truck do the same and i just happend to find this problem.

PCM ,ECM problems

This is what mine has always done. Is there any reason that you might have a bad voltage problem? The ALT, and Batteries never fixed mine, it won't. I added wire to the grounds soldered everything. It sure made a difference in the headlights. Mine will buck at 1100 to 1275 rpm. Buck at 1700,1800 and 2200 under (full) "HA" power up a 10 % hill. I have a bad arc in the electrical system and it is the prob I have to figure out how to diagnos it and writeup test procedures! It is turning a transistor off and back on for the fuel shut off. You have to be on the throttle all the time or you dont' get power as it is. Any way if this is what you are having pm me. Hope yours get repaired, mine is a 99 and not fixed from the factory. (just don't have enough money yet. It has kept me broke since new.

BigboyKy and neveragain, I would say that both of you have connection issues. In my job (Coast Guard Electronics technician), a majority of our equipment problems come from OE (operator error), bad connections, circuit card failure, or total system failure.

OE, this is where a large majority of my problems occur. However I don't suspect this to be an issue for either on of you. This happens more when you have a system maintained by someone and operated by another. Happen more in my field of work.

Bad connections. I cannot begin to tell you how a trivial thing as a bad/corroded/loose connection can do to a system or a vehicle. I know with vehicles its a lot harder to trace down the bad connection as there are many of them. I personally believe they could also be weatherproofed better from the factory too.

Bad circuit board. This doesn't happen too often for me. Occasionally I will get a card with blown componets on it buts its not often, sometimes a bad will look good but still not function in circuit.

Complete system failure. This is extremely rare for me too see. I have only one instance of this ever happening and it was on a small off the shelf Marine VHF radio.


I do believe that you have connection issues. The fact that you get NO BUS occasionally makes me think that right away. loose connections or even worse, loose wire(s) in a connector, are very frustrating and difficult to pinpoint.

As to the PCM swap question, I wouldn't foresee it to be a problem. Just make sure you get one from a same year model truck to eliminate any possiblty of compatability issues. Good luck.
