still no charge asd, cps, or pcm?

I just put in a new alternator, belt tensioner, serpentine belt, and new battery terminals. Voltage meter is only reading 12.2 volts now was at 11.8 before putting everything in. So time for some testing. Can I swap out the asd relay with any of the other two relays? How do I check cps and it's connections? And finally how should I go about diagnosing the pcm? Still trying to familiarize myself with the pcm so if there's an easy way to check the pcm that would be a big help. I injure the voltage regulator is in the pcm so how do I locate it and check it? Please help.

Ok cool how do I bypass the voltage regulator in pcm if I'm going to using an older mopar 2 wire voltage regulator? If the asd is the issue is it a cheap replacement?

Yea I have an auto truck. So as far as for the charging issue how do I check the cps if needed? And how does the tps play into the charging system?

Oh ok I understand so a bad tps can have an effect on charging? What does it cost and what about checking the cps and pcm? I appreciate all the help.

The TPS has nothing to do with charging. It only allows the transmission to go into OD (it needs voltage to work). The crank sensor tells the PCM that the truck is running which then tells the alternator to start charging. If the truck is not charging there is no voltage going to the TPS so it will not shift into OD. My crank sensor was intermittent. They way I first noticed it was the truck would not shift into OD. The I looked at the volt meter and it was not charging. Then the volt meter showed a charge and the truck shifted into OD. I fought this for a few months then changed the crank sensor and all has been good.

Now for a TPS issue without a Voltage problem. The TPS can go bad or go out of adjustment so the transmission will not shift. By putting in a POTS you bypass the $300.00 TPS and can adjust the shift points to your liking. I hope this helps.

Yea it helped a lot thanks. So more than likely my charging issue is either the asd or cps. How do I check the cps and it's connections properly? Thanks.

You can switch the relay with one of the others. Check the gap on the CPS. The specs are in the stickies. Check the wires coming from the CPS it is in a vulnerable place so there can be some damage. If you need to buy a CPS get it from Cummins (aprox $60.00) the part # is in the stickies also. As for checking it I do not know, in my case it either worked or not, 0 volts to 14 volts so your case may be a little different. good luck

But thanks again for the help so far I'm learning a lot about these first gens.
