Part Number

I'm doing battle with DC. They say they won't warranty the "fuel pump" because it's in the tank and is only covered by the 3/36K. They said if it was the "lift pump" or "injection pump" it would be covered under the 5/100K. Where can I find out what exactly a P/N 5015723.AC is and where it is located on the truck? (This is the P/N the dealer replaced.) The dealer told me that there is no such thing as a "fuel pump" in the tank. I'm tired of getting "pumped". By the way, it's on a 2000, 2500, R/C, 4x4, all stock except for the performance enhancing whip antenna. Thanks for ANY clarification.

Re:Part Number

the number i'm showing is 5080885aa and the cummins number 3990105. i would ask the parts guy what and where it goes on his computer. there are no pumps in the tanks on the diesels so it sounds like someone is confused as far as what they are talking about. I would try to clarify wher the pump is that was replaced with the mechanic that did it. my .02 worth By the way i had my wifes replaced last wek and the mechanic told me that DC is getting harder to deal with over the lift pumps they have gone from pressure to volume readings good luck.

Re:Part Number

I consulted 2 dealers today and verified the part number is actually a lift pump. I am perplexed as to why it is a different part number than is commonly referred to in LP related posts.

Re:Part Number

Dodge & Cummins use two different part numbers for the same part.

And two different price lists too.

When mine went "Tango Uniform" at 32,000 miles I bought my own from Cummins (caught a special....$89 ) rather than argue with the dealer over the "Warranty".
Took all of 45 minutes to change it.

I am amazed at the knowledge of the posts on the board!

Any ideas on why lift pumps are not in the tank like gas pumps? I know they would be a REAL bear to change, but they would last longer?

Also, my 1st lift pump lasted 136K miles and I ordered a new one just to be safe, pressure is 10 PSI at idle currently. One reason maybe I never let the tank get below 1/2 if I can help it. Less effort needed to lift the fuel, less suspended air bubbles, ect. Just a thought.

Could be because Cummins provides the engine as a "drop-in" with all fuel related stuff attached.
"Just add diesel".
