PacBrake Sticking

PacBrake Sticking


Has anyone had any problems with their PacBrake sticking closed causing total lose of power and a lot of black smoke being produced

Yes

It can be caused by soot buildup around the butterfly, a vacuum leak, or a sticking solenoid valve.

The valve needs to be cleaned periodically, you can find the instructions on pacbrake's website if I remember right.

You can check the hoses for vacuum leakage, good seals etc.

You remove the pin from the actuator to the bellcrank, and rotate the butterfly through a few nearly full turns to help clean the soot buildup out of the way.

Lube the unit as per pacbrake's instructions, and you should be good to go.

is your butterfly sticking or the the solenoid if it is the older vacuum operated type. I sprayed the butterfly till it was free as can be, the vacuum solenoid was continually sticking, I removed and cleaned worked for a while then I started spraying the intake of the solenoid with silicone and now it has worked for a long time. Pac brakes has a whole proceedure for cleaning the solenoind I think I got it on there web site. ED
