Sounds like the VP44 is dead. Time to replace it and upgrade your lift pump if you haven't already done that.

I just put on a DDRP today and it is no good! 10 LBS. at idle and 4 lbs. at MILD acceleration. My old beat up stocker was doing a lot better than that but was failing electrically. I hope I just got a bad one because they are probably just going to want to replace it with another one.

I consider the crank-driven mechanical lift pump I put on my truck one of the best mods I've done. 18 psi at idle... 20 psi under any type of acceleration. Couple that with a "big line" kit and I've pretty much got it covered.

I wanted to go that route but the funds are just not there right now. This happened at a bad time. Having the truck down for two weeks and now three weeks is hurting me even more. I can't believe that in 13 years nobody has been able to come up with an AFFORDABLE answer to this problem. Fuel injected cars run on electric pumps for hundreds of thousands of miles and we can't get 10,000 miles out of one.
Oh, You can buy replacement low pressure gasser pumps for 15.00! Super high performance ones cost 225.00.
What is the reason you cannot use a gasser pump for diesel?

I feel your pain, but have to add that even on gassers, the number one failure of most vehicles is also the fuel pump.

Working on diesel trucks for years, I noticed that one of the most durable lift pumps was the electric pump on 7.3 powered Super Duty trucks. Never personally tried it, but always thought it might be a reliable part to retrofit onto 24 valve and common rail Dodges, if a guy could come up with a decent way to regulate the pressure to something we could use.
