Overboost problem?

I checked for codes today because I had a dead pedal issue and got the dreaded 216 code and the 236.I've been reading that the 236 is an overboost condition and it throws this code if boost has reached over 20psi.My truck always goes 24-25 psi when matted.Could this be a map sensor problem? or do you have any suggestions?
The truck ran fine after I turned it off and restarted.

Put some sort of box on that does boost fooling, like an edge ez or something. That way no more overboost code plus you gain abit of power.

Common problem is a stuck wast gate in the turbo causing the overboost code. It will also make it run lazy as the overboost will start to derate the fuel.

I think you might have hit the nail on the head.Thats exactly why I thought my vp44 was going. When it wound out to pass lets say,It would start to fall on it's face which made me think it was weak.I will be checking it out tonight.
Is this kinda like what a jhook does and some people want this with a boost fooler?Ken

How do you check for a stuck wastegate? I've got the same code, had it for about 6 mo's before I got the dead pedal and P0216. I asked my dealer, and they said it was nothing unusual to see that code.

The boost fooler built into a lot of boxes will ignore the waste gate being stuck. The j hook just slows down or limits the waste gate actuation.

If you go underneath and look up you will see the shaft going into the turbo. You can spray it with a penetrant and free it up. If you are going to run a box on it leave it stuck. My 2002 runs about 35 to 38 pounds of boost with the super chips programmer. Before I had it chipped it would start derating at about 24 to 26 pounds of boost. It just ran like at dog at 1/2 throttle or more. Idle and light throttle it ran fine. Not an uncommon problem.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Most fixes are simple on a diesel if you understand them.
