A friend is looking at a 99 24v with 193K on it. Automatic. He test drove the truck and he says between 40-55mph the RPM will jump from about 1100 to 1800 and then go back down to 1100. He said the truck isnt accelerating, just RPM change. He said you almost wouldnt notice if you couldnt hear it.

Is this the torque converter "hunting" or is it the overdrive acting up? Im leaning towards the TC cause he says his speed doesnt change when RPMs change.

Any input would be great.

SOunds like our 1998. It seems to be roaming between 3rd and OD. We believe it is probably the TC--not that we are experts by anymeans.

Someone told us it could be the bands, some servos, even worn fluid.

 

Anyone else have any helpful input?
