fuel mileage

I have not posted on here much, but have been a member for a little while. I drive 42 miles one way to work, of which 28 miles of it is running about 60 mph of state roads and the last bit is on the interstate. I am the type of person that sets the cruise at 1900 rpm's and whatever speed the truck runs is how fast I travel, which is about 68 mph.

My truck is an 2007 5.9 autmoatic all stock but an AFE stage one cold air kit, the truck is averaging 22 mpg. The truch has 26,000 miles on it and I bought it new. I dont want to drive it to work because I feel they are wasted miles so I drive my neon to work which the wife hates me doing and she puts around town in the diesel truck. So to make her happy I either have to start driving my truck or buy another truck.
She doesnt like me driving the small car on the interstate and I drive where there are a lot of deer.

My question is this:

I am looking to buy a regular cab, 4x4 stick shift: What is the best year to buy for fuel mileage.

I am looking at 94'-99's and I have been told to stay away from the 94-95's by people here where I live.

I plan on putting on a cold air kit, elbow and complete exhaust system, no stack in the bed, but a traditional under the truck exhaust.

Thanks for the input

Scott

My "99" with 5spd gets 16 mpg on summer fuel. Its stock other than tires and it has a blue chip x pump(V.P) that was supposed to give a couple of more mpg's.I'm not impressed with my mileage at all. I say in your case drive your truck and leave the neon for intown running or look into a 1st gen . as they get better mileage than 2nd gen.s from what I 've read. Nate

SAo you are saying a 89-93 gets the best fuel mileage?

There is one here for sale that has 42,000 miles on it and is near mint. Guys is asking 15000 for it.

I looked at an 01 today with a rebuilt trans, rebuilt rearend with 3.54 gears, fast pump, new injectors and a new turbo. Guy is asking 12,500 for it. Has receipt for $7000 in the transmission. It is loaded with leather interior and is a quad cab.

That 01 sounds like a good deal. Thats what I have and I love it. I get 17 mpg around town and 20 on the highway at 75mph with the cruise set. I have seen a touch better with a tailwind and going downhill of course. Lol

I would look for a 03 disc's in rear and no cad. just to mention a few better items. Price does not sound too bad. I was asking 12,500 for mine but seems theres not a market for them now. Nate
