Oil Pressure

I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 CTD. Lately, I have noticed the oil pressure gauge never seems to remain steady. It seems to roam within the normal range depending on if the truck is moving or at a standstill. Is this normal for a diesel?

Should be steady at cruise??
It's an electronic gauge....not reading oil pressure directly, but off a sensor. As long as it's in the "safe" range...should be Ok.
If pressure falls below 5 psi (if memory serves), needle will fall to just above 0. if over 85 psi, I think, it will jump to top hash mark.
Other than that it should fluctuate, in the safe zone, based on Oil temp and RPM.

My gauge sits anywhere from just above center (warmed up...on hwy) to 3/4 up the safe zone at start up.

My gauge reads the same as RJ's almost max at cold start up and just above the halfway mark when warmed.
I have got an Autometer oil pressure gauge installed ready for connection, just trying to figure out the best method of coupling it to the pressure sensor connection on the block so as not to stop the sensor from working properly.
I don't trust idiot lights and gauges especially oil pressure...Ade
