oil leak
oil leak
I have oil coming from the breather on the front of my 24V engine. :'( Dealer tells me that it's part of the oil change to clean that. How do I get it off to clean it?
Re:oil leak
The easy way is to just go to the car wash and wash the bottle out with the wand through the holes in the side and at the sametime clean off the bottom of the engine. Seems to work for me. Other wise you have to unbolt it from the engine and disconnect the breather hose and pull it out, clean it out and then put it back on.
Re:oil leak
The truck is a '99 model. There isn't a bottle on the front of the engine. This is a round black thing ( about the size of a hockey puck ) with a black hose coming down the front of the engine.
Re:oil leak
Sounds like your bottle is MIA but the job wasn't finished correctly. Get yourself a 3/4" splice connector and a short piece of hose, and extend it below the engine. The vapors will blowback under the truck and not on the front of the engine.

Tom Hybiske

It is black with holes cut in the sides of it. When you have blow by from the CTD it drips into the pill bottle, the holes let it breath. The problem starts when the oil builds up to the point it overflows the holes cut in the side of the pill bottle (catch bottle), then it blows all over the front and underside of your CTD because of the Rad. fan. I was saying if you wash it off at the car wash with the wand it washes the oil out of the pill bottle and cleans off the oil from the engine. Or you can take it off and clean it out. If your 99 does not have a catch bottle then it will just drip oil from the blow by tube on the ground and back on the engine when you drive.
Re:oil leak
I can't imagine the mess you'd have with an overflowing bottle. The vapors alone made a mess on the front of my new engine. That bottle is history on mine, and I now have a hose extending below the torsion bar.
