oil/fluid leaking in wheel well

Hi All,
I have just noticed some "fluid" oily like, sprayed up into the passenger front wheel well of my 2001 Dodge Diesel. ( 93,000 Kms)It is on the top of the shock mounts as well. Is this a leak from the shock or another place. All help appreciated.
Thanks
Shaun

I would check the crankcase breather bottle that is located on the front of the engine. If it is not emptied at every oil change, the fan will blow the excess oil to other areas.

You didn't say whether or not its a 4x4, but I'd also check your axle seals... one could be leaking onto the wheel and slinging oil into the wheelwell with the wheel turning.

Let us know what you find out.

I have noticed the same thing on my truck. I can see it on my cement however it doesn't stain it and it seems to evaporate. It also isn't the water that comes of the a/c condensor. I haven't tried smelling it so I'll do that tonight.

Another thing to check would be the vent tube on the axle. It exits up in there on my 01. I have had mine blow lube up there before. The only time I noticed it was after I had been driving fast in 4 high (50mph). My guess at the time was it was foaming at that speed (maybe due to a buildup of condensation?). Switched to synthetic lube when I put on a new diff cover up front and it hasn't happened since but I also don't think I have gone 50+ in 4 high since then either. Whatever it really was it hasn't happened since and its been over 2 years.

I was going to suggest that too Barry, but isn't it on the driver's side? The "vented cover" varient of the Dana 60 is.

I haven't seen it on my truck in the past few days so I'll keep on eye on it. Mine is happening on the passenger side wheel well.

Another thing to check is the oil filter. I had that happening and found that the hand tight would not seal the oil filter.

Mine vents on the passenger side, about halfway up the inside of the fender. It looks like a rubber tube with a plug in it.
