Re:Oil Analysis?

complicated question.

First off, do you intend to trend your oil? Meaning that you want to know how it performs over time. If so then I would do one now as a baseline, then again later on.

If you just want to see how well the oil holds up, go the 12500 then do the test, should still be fine.

Part 2. I would find an analysis company that does all the proper tests for a good price. Once you find that company I would stick with it, as different companies test differently and equipment can vary.

I have analysis kits for $18.95. That includes TBN, Fuel. Soot, wear metals, and anti-wear additive levels. I feel it is one of the most comprehensive around.

Blackstone labs is another popluar company but they charge extra for TBN. So you test would cost over $30 with shipping.

My kits include prepaid shipping of the sample and the return results that you can also get online.

Local companies vary, some only do anlaysis for equipment failure(wear metals) if you do a local company find out if you can take a look at a sample before you pay. Make sure they do TBN! Soot, water, fuel, glycol, wear metals, Nox and Oxd as well.

Hope this helps.

Re:Oil Analysis?

If you're using an Amsoil SDF filter, the recommeded change interval for that is 7,000 miles on a turbo-charged diesel.

As stated below, The filter change is 7500 for Turbo Charged Diesels, and the oil change interval is double what the manufacture recommends. If you want to extend farther than that you need to do analysis.

Please review this oil change interval chart, you can print it out and find the product your using and the type of vehile. If you want the Amsoil warranty to cover you I would use this guide.
