NV5600 Reverse Grinding

Questions for the experts, My warranty is about to run out. I took my truck in this week to dealer as I've noticed that reverse gear is a real treat to engage without grinding seems to be getting worse, also sometimes very difficult to get into second from a stop position.(This problem has been around for awhile.)Last time I took it in regarding difficulty to get into second gear the tech guy says he had no problem. This time around I watched the tech guy in the parking lot. It ground 9 out of 10 times going into reverse. When I spoke with him he said it is normal for these trannies to grind into reverse?? He said the reverse gear is not syncronized and even if they put a new tranny in it will do the same??? My friend has a 03 CTD HO with same tranny his is sooo smooth and never grinds in reverse. I checked into the info. on the NV5600 and it states that reverse is syncronized. What's up!!! The dealer told me to come back when the service manager is back from holidays and we can discuss the problem and possibly replace the tranny under warranty. I just want to get solid info to back my claim. Your advise will be greatly appreciated.

Could be either:

1. Pilot bearing going bad - the input shaft is dragged along by the crankshaft and continues to rotate even with the clutch disengaged.

2. Clutch master/slave cylinder assembly defective - the clutch is not disengaging completely.

Regardless of what the specs say, even if the transmission is working correctly, mine will grind if I'm idling in neutral, depress the clutch and immediately jam it into reverse - it certainly doesn't act synchronized! If I'm coming out of neutral into reverse, I always drop it into 1st or 2nd, then reverse - no grind! (By the way, this has nothing to do directly with your problem since you're having problems getting into 2nd, but is meant as advice to be filed away after your problem is fixed.)

Clutch master/slave cylinder failures are pretty common. If your dealer hasn't done so, that's the first thing he should check out.

mine has never grinded. it gets pretty "sticky" shifting through the gears but i have been meaning to get some of that Redline MTL to help out. second gear usually is smooth (thats a relative term for the NV5600) but at times it acts up. just what i have noticed.

Stonewalldiesel, I only have 29k on my truck but it shifts great, no problems with 2nd or reverse although as said by RustyJC I don't instantly jam it into reverse.
I think the dealer may be stonewalling you
