Normal fuel pressure?

I have seen quite a few posts, stating about 14-15 at idle. I have a new gauge installed, it reads about 10 or 11 at idle, and when I really get one it, drops to about 6 psi. Are those a too low? Within the normal? Plus, when I turn the key to ON, the pressure peaks to like 20 slowly drops and dies off, should it stay up the whole time before I start? (I guess I'm asking if the LP runs once your in the ON position, before you start an should it maintain pressure?) Anyway, I appreciate any help. Thanks

It's normal for the guage to go up and come back down when you turn the key on. That's just the pump priming the lines. I don't think those numbers are dangerously low, but I'd keep an eye on them. I'm putting a holley blue on tomorrow, because my stocker is showing 6 PSI at idle and 2 when I'm on the go pedal. I changed my filter, hoping that would help some, but it didn't help a bit.

Your #'s sound a little low, dirty fuel filter maybe? I see about 15 at idle, can't pull it below about 10-11. Cruising at 70mph, about 12-13. (stock truck, stock lift pump)
When I turn the key on, pressure jumps to about 15 for a second or two and then drops until I start it. You can hear the pump run...and then stop.
hope this helps

The Wide Open Throttle reading is most important. And yeah, its just about time for a lift pump or fuel system upgrade.

I just installed the FASS HPFP on my truck and the pressure stays at 14.5
I can get it to drop about 1 pound by punching it, but not like it used to drop with the Carter pump. Good for FASS!

I just installed a FASS HPFP-150 and I get 19 at idle and 12 WOT. My stocker LP(x3) would get 15 idle and 10 WOT. My last LP when it started to go would be about 12 at Idle and 8 WOT but at times would drop below 5 for no reason while cruising. Decided it was time to move to the HPFP.

Just installed fuel pressure gauge today. New carter pump installed last week with Vulcan big line. 15#'s at idle and 10 WOT. I changed the fuel filter at the same time.

I would say your numbers are acceptable. You don;t want the WOT pressure to fall below 5 psi but other than that, pressures are not all that critical. I can dial mine to anything I want and I keep them at 13 idle and 9 WOT.

I would be careful... I lost my first VP44 at 8 PSI worth of pressure at WOT...5 PSI can be way too low for WOT. Remember you need a little return fuel at WOT and 5 PSI there is no return fuel...

I do not have a personal record of relating VP44 failures to WOT pressures, and based my decision of "no less than 5 psi" on the explanation at BlueChip that makes sense to me: http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/VP44INFO.html
I also read reports of VP44 failing on trucks that ran nothing but FASS, never had low FP. VP44 is just prone to failure, what can I say.
