no throttle response on 98 dodge diesel
no throttle response on 98 dodge diesel
Could someone please help me out!. I have a 98 dodge diesel 2500 4wd. and while driving you will loose throttle. If you let the pedal up and press it again sometimes 2 or 3 times the truck will rev up again, only to loose it again within a minute or two. We have gone all through the chrysler service manual and checked the wiring out to find nothing wrong. We even went ahead and replaced the tps switch complete with mount plate on the advice of a mechanic. Later another mechanic told me that this model year truck had grounding issues with electrical. We made a ground wire to go on to the mount plate and onto the motor. This still didn't solve anything and i'm frustated and out of any ideas(as are other mechanics obviousley) Has anyone out there had this problem I would shure appreciate a reply so we can fix this truck!.
Well, if you replaced the APPS ( TPS ) and addressed the ground, then you had better scan it for codes. VP44 is a probable culprit.
Have it scanned and report the codes. You also might want to do a search here for the term Dead Pedal, hundreds if not thousands of posts about your problem.

Hi Just got the truck back from the transmision shop. The technician gave me the fault codes that came up. P0121 acc. position sensor volts do not agree,P0216 fuelpump timing failure, P0236 manifold absolute pressure sensor too high,P1488 auxiliary 5 volt output too low,P1693 diagnostic trouble code detected in powertrain. The power trainj code has him baffled because the tranny was just serviced and checked along with a new tv cable installed. Can anyone help us out on these codes?. I wonder if these codes are re-appearing again(this truck had a chip and was removed before we bought it. we have wiped out codes at least twice since we purchased it three years ago. Thanks again . We need to change the cab on our 98 dodge 2500 4wd diesel. A wrecker we deal with has found a cab for us, but my question is, will this cab equipped with the dash and steering column be the same as ours because the engine in the other truck was a gas?. Are the dashes built the same to accept a gas or diesel engine or will they be completely different?
Would appreciate any help someone can give us
Thanks

Hello Pat Daly
We have tried all of your suggestions regarding the loss of throttle on the pedal to no avail. There is no code in the computer for the injection pump.We have looked this thing over like crazy! There are no visible iwres disconnected of broke or corroded. We have even gone through the Chrysler service manual and still come up with nothing. We are now wondering if we have something as simple as a bad wire or connection somewhere in the wiring that maybe the tps gets its power from?
If anybody out there has some more ideas we would be glad to get them!!!
Thanks
