well I went ahead and got a new starter, payed the $5 core charge and will rebuild the stock one. Now on removing this bad boy...
Took of the hot cables on the batteries and now the hot cable one the starter has a plastic cover where it bolts onto the starter and its causing me fits. Can I get rough with this plastic cover and rip it off?
Any write ups would help alot, thx so far guys.

Got it installed and everything hooked up and all cables cleaned...
Gonna let the truck set for about 30 minutes with the negitive cables off and reset the APPS Sensor while I'm messing with it.

Bringing this old thread back up because my truck wouldnt start the other day.
I have a 01 3500, I have never replaced the starter as long as I have owned it. A couple of weeks ago I went to start it and the starter solinoid fuse blew, put a new fuse in and it was fine.
A few weeks later it did the same thing. As soon as I turned the key it blew right away. I put another in and it didnt blow, but the truck wont crank either. When I turn the key I hear one solid click, not sure if its the relay or the solinoid, but it doesnt turn over. My truck is a 5 speed so I was able to roll start it and it fired right up.
I already took the starter out and took it to 2 different auto part stores and it tested fine on their machine. Is it possible the contacts are bad and just isnt getting the connection it needs?
Thoughts?
