No start after fuel filter change(yes I bleed it)

hi guys,
just bought my first 2nd gen great truck

changed the fuel filter, truck started for about 5 seconds then quit. cracked #1 injector and also the banjo bolt behind the fuel filter and re primed the system a few times nothing, so i pulled the main fuel line which goes to the lift pump left the key on and there is hardly and pressure, if the lift pump is bad would the truck still be able to run with just fuel in the filter even for like 5 seconds???. can't get it to spuder or get fuel up to the injectors....I can't get any fuel from the tank to the lift pump, going crazy on this one. have to wait till monday for a lift pump, but could it be anything else????? Ideas???

thanks any help would be great

Sounds like a dead lift pump. The truck will run for a few seconds on the fuel in the canister.

It's the job of the lift pump to move fuel from the tank to the injection pump, if the lift pump is bad would the truck still be able to run with just fuel in the filter even for like 5 seconds???. can't get it to spuder or get fuel up to the injectors....I can't get any fuel from the tank to the lift pump, going crazy on this one. have to wait till monday for a lift pump, but could it be anything else????? Tighten up everything. Your truck will have a black cap on a fitting where the fuel goes into the injection pump. Remove that cap and you'll find the schrader valve on the test port. Assuming you do hear the lift pump run when you bump the starter (it will run for 20 sec) push in the valve with a pocket screwdriver. That's the way I purge the air from the primary side. Once you get that flowing loosen three accessable injectors and crank till you get fuel. Tighten up the lines as you get fuel to them and hopefully it will start.

....Cool collection of C bods you got there.

Unlikely

Hey, this probably isn't the problem, but it happened to me. Maybe there is a hole or crack in your fuel line... A metal tube in my fuel line, which went through the frame, had holes in it! I guess just from vibration and friction with something. If there are holes, then all your fuel would retract back down the line. It doesn't necessarily have to leak either. I just sealed the holes with JB Weld.. good stuff

Thanks for the Help guys its got to be the lift pump, because it is unable to pull fuel from the tank, the pump must be bad and fuel was most likly being pulled from the vp pump ,and I guess buy changing the fuel filter it casued air in the line now there is no suction to the tank sound right?? Im going to pick up a pump tommorw or an alternative system

Is FASS system all that great? is this the final solution to lift pump probs?? and do you need the factory lift pump and the FASS system just wanted to know before i buy a lift pump

what do you guys recommend vulcan ,holley blue/black,or the FASS I want the best trouble free system

Thanks again

With the Fass, you bypass the factory fuel pump.

I had that same problem a few days ago, may not be a good idea but after trying to prime the conventional way, I pressurized the fuel tank with compressed air and got it primed real quick after that. I too will be checking out that lift pump real soon, before I use truck. Good Luck.
