no 4x4 at -10 below

Hope all had a great holiday and hunting season. Got a small buck, better eaten. Anyway no 4x4 when it gets cold, that's most of the time in Montana. After driving about a hour, I can pull over and put it in and it works again. Maybe water? if so how can I get it out..thanks

Exactly why I opted to eliminate the CAD with a Perma-Loc.

Quite possible water.

I liked my Posi-Loc ( selectable Perma-loc ) and when Greenies vacuum unit starts giving me fits, will switch it over as well.

I do like the option of leaving 4X4 out.

Looks like that's the problem, My truck has been in the lake a lot this last summer. Went to this site to check the posi-lok out, looks like a simple fix, just need to figure out which kit to get. thanks

The best thing to do before you park it at nite engage 4 wheel drive and after you have driven for a hour put her in two wheel

Brad, replacing the vacuum CAD with a Posi-Lok was the first upgrade I did when I bought my truck a few years back. The vacuum CAD is a notoriously weak system. The vacuum lines are tiny little capillary tubes that are right down there where they get pummeled by road gravel etc. I really like the peace of mind knowing that when I want 4x4 I slow down, engage the transfer case and then pull the cable to engage the CAD. It is a super easy installation that takes an hour or so. If you jack up the passenger side of the front axle when you do it, you will barely lose any of your front diff fluid.

If you were in the water a lot, it may be a good idea to open it up, clean it out and refill with a good synthetic gear oil. Makes a difference at below 0.

My thoughts exctly. If you have enough water to freeze and stop things from working, you also have enough water to cause rust and really break things.
